Vintage Cool Comes With a Few Quirks

We’re fond of our 1956 roots. The vintage architecture, mid-century details, and old-school motel vibe are a big part of what makes Raton Pass Motor Inn special. But let’s be real: building standards have changed a lot since the 1950s, and not all of our original features work for every guest.

We’ve added modern comforts where we can while preserving much of the original layout. Our guests rooms are at ground level, but that doesn’t automatically make them accessible to everyone. Doorways are narrow, floors can sometimes feel uneven, and our bathrooms have features that may present challenges for guests with mobility limitations.

Room & Bathroom Dimensions

We believe in giving you the details so you can decide whether our vintage accommodations will work for you.

· Guest Room Entry Doorway: 29 inches of clear opening

· Bathroom Doorway: 22.25 inches of clear opening

· Toilet Seat Height: 15.25 inches from the floor

· Sink Basin Height: 30 inches from the floor

· Bathtub Rim Height: 13.5 inches from the floor

There is approximately one foot of space on either side of the toilet, between the toilet and the adjacent wall on one side and the sink on the other. This space is not sufficient for wheelchair positioning or a walker-assisted transfer alongside the toilet.

Bathroom & Shower Facilities

Our bathrooms have traditional bathtubs with overhead showerheads. We do not have roll-in or walk-in showers, handheld showerheads, or grab bars. Guests must step over the bathtub rim to enter and exit the tub, which may be difficult for people with limited mobility or balance concerns. A shower chair is available upon request. Please let us know in advance if you would like one during your stay. A shower chair may make bathing more comfortable for some guests, but it does not eliminate the need to step over the bathtub rim.

We know accessibility is personal. A doorway, toilet, or bathtub that works for one guest may present a significant challenge for another. We don’t want you to have to guess, and we certainly don’t want you to arrive only to discover that our accommodations won’t meet your needs.
